We were finally able to spend three nights on the property. Day one, we built a loft bed. Well, Gabbie did all of the measuring and cutting and I was her bitch, if you will. It turned out great and we both got some well deserved sleep. Quite a change from the blowup mattress and cots. At this point, there is no reason why someone couldn't live there.
Day two, we drove twenty miles east to the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness and hiked the Strawberry Lake trail. Only a mile and half and at the end, an outstanding alpine lake stocked with Brook trout. Next time, I am hiking in a float tube and fly rod.
The Strawberry Mountain Wilderness' peaks are in view from our property and that particular trail head is about a thirty mile drive, although there are closer ones. Click on the link to read about it.
Someone asked me, "what do you do out there?" and I replied, "whatever we want". The response was crass, but true. We sleep in, drink coffee, go out for breakfast, build, fix, or maintain something, fish, hike, shoot guns, buy a Blizzard, BBQ, drink beer and sit by a fire. The sunsets and stars are amazing and it is peaceful. It's just amazing. I am looking forward to exploring new lakes and waterfalls. Maybe one day I will have a llama or donkey that can schlep my gear for me...
