Hveragerdi & Ölfusdalur
About sixty miles southeast of Rekjavik there is a village named Hveragerdi. Where geysers appear everywhere: on the golf course, in the hills, in town, on farms, and even in a bakery. We purchased some sweet goodies and a loaf of bread that was actually baked and a geothermal oven. It was a beautiful sunny day and we went for a hike up the Ölfusdalur Valley. Following the trail was a river that flowed warm water that was at the temperature of a perfect bath. We ended up shedding our clothes off and took a dip. On our way back to town, we stopped at a farm to pet some Icelandic horses. The horses here are much shorter but, more stout than the horses back home. We even got to see some sheep, which is uncommon this time of year because they are kept in a barn during wintry days. Later, we grabbed a pizza and a beer. When we arrived back into the city, we did some more shopping and Gabbie bought a warm sweater. For me, it was the best day, so far.
